In 1068 William the Conqueror build Warwick Castle. In 1088 Henry de Beaumont is appointed 1st Earl of Warwick. After Six Generations of Beaumonts, John du Plessis becomes the New Earl of Warwick in 1242. In 1260 he replaced the earthen construction with stone. In 1263 William Maudit succeeds John du Plessis only to have the William de Beauchamp attack and take the castle. In 1323 Piers Gaveston, who was the Kings lover is seized, tried for treason and sentenced to death at the Castle, shortly after that the tower and the Dungeon are constructed.
Then in 1397 Thomas de Beauchamp confesses to treason and is exiled to the Isle of Man by Richard II, only to have Richard removed by Henry IV and reinstate Thomas de Beauchamp. Then in 1431, the then Earl of Warwick, Richard de Beauchamp supervises Joan of Arcs trial and her and eecution. In 1449, Richard Neville becomes the Earl of Warwick by marrying the sister of Henvy VI. He then helps to espose both Henry VI and Edwar IV and the title and estates are awarded by Edward IV to his brother, George. When George is found quilty of treason and imprisons, his oe Edward succeeded, only to be imprison in the Tower of London by Henry VII.
This somewhat ends the bloodiest of the times at Warwick Castle. Improvement were done in the kitchens and new State Rooms for when the Royals Visited.
Finally in 1978 the Castle and grounds were sold to the Tussard Group and opening to the public.
Now it is a great site for camping, weddings and parties as well and a tourist attraction.
